The floods of August 2019 that ravaged the state, have damaged a number of schools. One such school is the Madhyamik Vidyalaya Jamboti a Private School, which was washed away almost to the tune of 90% in the floods then.

The students who came to school were devastated with the view of their school being washed away.

The floods were having a huge impact on education, causing untold damage to thousands of schools, destroying infrastructure and other learning materials. Many schools had been completely destroyed while others had suffered various degrees of damage.

The staff of the school decided that the education must not hamper and hence decided to hold classes in a nearby Mutt & a Sri Ram temple as they don’t have any other alternative or help which would come to them immediately.

Sometimes the classes were held in the open area near the school itself under the trees, a few had benches and few had to sit on the ground, but teaching was never stopped.

The school teaching team approached the School Principal Mahesh Sadekar & staff management for help but they couldn’t as lack financial condition, similarly they also visited various Government institutes & public representatives but everywhere they were disappointed.

When approached by noted social worker Kiran Nippanikar, he conveyed the school condition to the RSS team led by Shri Raghvendra Kagwad Ji , Krishnanad Kamat, Narendra Ji, Ashok Shintre , Parmeshwar Hegde & team from Belagavi who were actively participating in a lot of flood relief works.

A team of same delegation from RSS visited the school & after analyzing the condition & the way students come in for education to this school from surrounding tribal areas as far a 25-30 kms deep inside from the jungle.

The Jan Kalyan Trust (A wing of RSS) agreed to the reconstruction of the school, and a committee was formed under the name of “Vidya Vikas Samithi” & this work was given to Mr. Chaitanya Kulkarni (C Care Constructions) who built the most beautiful school which now stands tall & high in the midst of Jamboti village.

The objective of the project was to restore and make the school functional and child friendly by rebuilding school infrastructure with adequate facilities.

Seeing the reconstruction work, the ex-students association & a few other self-help groups pitched in their bit.

In school infrastructure development the organization took up the initiative of school retrofitting works. The focus will also be on behavior change communication so that the upgraded school infrastructure is operated and maintained properly, used by the students and teachers, and remains sustainable.

A total amount of 65 lakhs was spent to rebuild the school which now boasts of new 4 classrooms, Office, Library, new modern colorful benches & one lab sponsored by VTU. The Toilet (boys& girls separate was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Belgaum Under a global grant in association with Polyhydron Foundation.
